It doesn’t matter what works. It only matters what duplicates. Say it with me: “It doesn’t matter what works. It only matters what duplicates.”
Duplication is an old adage of Network Marketing, and it is vital if you want your business to succeed. You might have certain skills and be able to achieve things in a way that works for you, but if those skills aren’t duplicatable–meaning if your team can not easily replicate them–then your new distributors are not going to succeed. The benefit of Network Marketing is that you have a large group of people performing a few simple tasks over a sustained period of time. When you recruit new distributors, you need to teach them what you do, and they need to be able to do it.
If your strategy consists of fancy things like talking to government officials or members of huge corporations, your new distributors are not going to be able to duplicate it. Just because something works for you doesn’t mean that others can do it. It is a real problem when people fall in love with what works for them, and they forget about creating a system inside their organization that can work for anyone.
So, the best thing to do is to set up a simple system that is easily duplicatable.
Network Marketing without Duplication
Here’s what would happen if you don’t set up a duplicatable system.
📷It’s like spinning plates on a stick. You can get 5 plates spinning. And when one of them starts to wobble because they need your help with finding prospects or closing, then you can give them some attention and keep their plate spinning. Some of your plates might need more work than others, but you still have to work to make sure all of your plates are spinning well.
Then, those 5 plates recruit 5 plates each. Your 5 original plates can’t even keep themselves spinning, so who do you think they’re going to ask to keep the 5 plates they’ve recruited spinning? You!
Suddenly, you have 30 plates that you are trying to keep spinning. You have to drag them out of bed and tell them when to work and how to work. It’s exhausting! You can’t keep up with everything, and more and more of your plates begin to wobble until you just give up on them and they begin to crash.
Network Marketing with Duplication
But if you create a duplicatable system, then instead of spinning plates, you simply have to wind up the clock. You teach your new distributors a simple system that anyone can do, and they then go to work by themselves. They might still need your help and be wound up every once in a while, but they have the skills and a system that allows them to tick away on their own.
So, ask yourself: Is what I’m doing every day something that every single person in my organization can also do every day? If not, then you need to change your strategy.
As a Network Marketing professional, you want freedom, leverage, and sustainability. But, you can’t achieve that by doing fancy things. You need to keep your strategy around third party tools, keep it around stories, and keep it around simple systems.
With duplication, your new distributors can get started right. With duplication, you don’t have to control every single action of your downline. With duplication, you will achieve your goals.
So, say it with me one more time: “It doesn’t matter what works. It only matters what duplicates.”
